When people say that a system has a fragmentation problem, it usually means that the application developers need optimize their applications for a variety of hardware devices. All operating systems are more or less facing fragmentation problems, but the degree varies.
For example, developers develop applications for iOS, they do not need to think too many equipments, because Apple has just launched 15 kinds of iOS devices so far, and of all iOS device users, 95 percent are using Apple’s latest iOS 6 system, which is the main reason attracting developers to develop applications for iOS. The worse is the screen size fragmentation problem. Android devices have the size of dozens of kinds. All those who want to develop applications for Android had to design for dozens of different sizes, different device screen resolutions.
