Operators to promote ineffectively,Panasonic may exit the smart phone market

According to informed sources, Panasonic has informed the Japanese telecommunication operator NTT DoCoMo that it will cease supplying smart phones for NTT DoCoMo from this autumn.

On July, Matsushita said that as NTT DoCoMo has adopted a new marketing strategy that the operator promoted Sony’s and Samsung’s smart phones with larger discounts, Panasonic’s mobile phone sales had fallen sharply in the second quarter.

NTT DoCoMo is Japan‘s largest mobile operator, who makes this summer’s marketing focus primarily on the Sony Xperia A and Samsung Electronics GS4. NTT DoCoMo is the only smartphone marketing channels of Panasonic, to stop the supply of Panasonic’s new products means that Panasonic will stop the development of new smart phones.

Panasonic mobile phone business in the second quarter reached 5.4 billion yen operating loss.

Sony and other Japanese manufacturers have been trying to promote their brands to overseas markets, but there are difficulties and the results are not satisfying.

According to the latest statistics released by market research firm Nielsen, the U.S. smartphone market pattern has not changed greatly. Apple and Samsung are still the market leaders. Other mobile phone manufacturers can only fight for the few remaining shares.

Earlier this month, Japan‘s NEC announced stoping the development of new smartphones and fading out the smartphone market. Its future smartphone business will be limited to existing products.
