USB 3.1 doubles the speed of USB 3.0 to 10Gbps

USB 3.0 was fast enough? Maybe the past, now you are wrong. On Thursday, the USB promoter group announced that they finalize the USB 3.1 spec. It has a speed up to 10Gbps, which is double the speed of USB 3.0.

The new USB 3.1 will be backwards compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0. That means there are no compatibility issues for your current USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 devices.

But there is maybe long time to see the finial products, because it will take time for the chip manufacturers to support the new standard. The USB promoter group said earlier this year that the USB 3.1 won’t come to our life until late 2014.

USB 3.1 might not come to us immediately, but the Intel’s Thunderbolt technology already supports 10Gbps transmission speed. It is said that the Thunderbolt will has an upgrade to 20Gbps. It supports playing 4K resolution videos. But the USB 3.0 has advantages than the Thunderbolt. The USB 3.0 is cheaper, and it has a widely application.
